Support for people living with dementia in Erewash has received a further boost with seven GP practices signing up to help create ‘dementia-friendly’ communities.

The initiative is being run by the Alzheimer’s Society on behalf of Wellbeing Erewash with the voluntary sector organisation set to provide tailored support to the surgeries.

This follows a presentation to a practice managers’ meeting in February 2018 by ‘Peter’ – a person with dementia who spoke about how it feels to have dementia.

A dementia information day is planned by Wellbeing Erewash for Friday 25 May as part of Dementia Action Week. The day will see local services promoting how they can help people living with dementia as well as support family, friends and carers.

Wellbeing Erewash has helped oversee the revision of a dementia services directory which is currently being distributed to GP practices and to voluntary sector organisations.
